Entomology and Biodiversity

Entomology and Biodiversity Research Laboratory’s focus is to understand Sociobiology and Behavioural Ecology of insects. Dealing with Insect Pollinators, Ecology, Taxonomy and Biodiversity of insects in the Shivalik Hills and Himalaya. We have worked on Taxonomy and Biodiversity of Lepidoptera, Hymenoptera, Diptera and Coleoptera in particular. We have worked and also perusing research on the molecular characterization of Butterflies and Insects as they are the pollinators of different crops and medicinal plants in the Himalayan region respectively. The interest in Zoology has taken us beyond the confined walls of laboratory and therefore, enabled us to compile the faunal diversity of Sukhna Lake, Khajjiar Wildlife Sanctuary, Pin Valley National Park, Renuka Wetland, Pong Dam wetland, Shivalik hills and different Eco-climatic zones of Himachal Pradesh. Under the umbrella of lab to land interest we have published the important information on biodiversity of butterflies of Shivalik Hills. We are also engaged in preparation of People’s Biodiversity Register (in collaboration with Himachal Pradesh State Biodiversity Board) and impacts of climate change on the pollinator’s genetic diversity.
