The Himachal Pradesh University established in the year 1970 soon established Directorate of Correspondence Course(s) in the year 1971. The Himachal Pradesh University, hence, became a pioneer Institution in North India with setting its own Directorate of Correspondence Courses which subsequently was renamed International Centre for Distance Education and Open Learning.
