It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the Department of Modern European and Other Foreign Languages, Himachal Pradesh University, located in the Faculty of Arts Building. The department was established far back in 1973 seeking to impart foreign language skills in German, French and Russian. Offering courses for the beginners and advanced learners of German, French and Russian, the department at present boasts of attracting students from diverse corners of the country.

The department is equipped with good infrastructure of teaching and studies of foreign languages. Learning foreign language in the department is accompanied by an urge by the students to evolve an intercultural understanding and receptiveness. Education in foreign languages with this department signifies a distinguished endeavor to contribute both to a continuous development of self and to the cultural, intellectual welfare of the society at large. Living in a world characterized by increased global interaction, the department aims to foster a vibrant global consciousness among those who opt to study with the department and subsequently enrich the social order with the values earned during their learning of foreign language, literature and culture. Over the decades the department has earned academic fame and I sincerely hope that it will continue pursuing for excellence in teaching and research.

I will ensure that the Department of Modern European an Other Foreign Languages, Himachal Pradesh University gets a pride of place among the leading institutes of education and research at national as well as global level.
