Established in 1990 the Centre for Canadian Studies has been one of the vibrant units of Himachal Pradesh University playing a significant role in exploring the areas of collaborations between India and Canada. The prime objective of the centre is to organise conferences, seminars and workshops related to the bilateral issues, exchange programmes with Canada through Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute (SICI) as mediator, publishing literature on various themes of India and Canada, signing MOUs with Canadian Universities for various Academic activities and promoting research at the level of MPhil and PhD on the themes related to the two states. The centre is registered with SICI and promotes academic activities sponsored by it. The centre has successfully facilitated Indian and Canadian universities and research institutions in identifying and developing effective partnerships, hold important institutional dialogues and develop collaborative research projects on areas of common concern of the two countries. As a member of SICI the centre has contributed to its vision and mission. We have so far organized seven International Conferences on various themes and provided a significant platform for scholars to share their research and views, critique the policy making and explore further areas of collaborations between the two countries. The centre also plans to undertake workshops on Canadian study permit application process and visa related issues. We believe that sharing of ideas and research through conferences and seminars and exchange programmes for faculty and students will lead not just to improved understanding on various issues between the two countries but also to productive long term research partnerships.
