Himachal Pradesh University is amongst the leading universities of north India.  Since its inception in 1970, the university has come a long way. Having enviable academic standards, the university has always encouraged teachers and students engaged in cutting edge research on campus and in collaboration with the best national and international institutions. Being an affiliating university, all the postgraduate and the undergraduate degree colleges of the state are affiliated to it.
After the completion of their degrees, Himachal Pradesh University students have been bringing credit to the institution and to themselves. They have occupied topmost positions in the government as ministers in the central and the state government, in the civil services and the judiciary. They have ventured in the international arena too as recognized professionals. Many of them hold faculty positions at various universities, colleges and institutes, both in the state, the country and even abroad. Others have joined prestigious print and electronic media houses.
 In recognition of our research potential and academic achievements, the National Accreditation Council has accredited us as an ‘A’ grade University. To be amongst the highly ranked institutions has made us strive for even higher standards of excellence, which the university aims to attain.  
We offer Master's degree, M.Phil. and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) programmes besides a number of diploma and certificate courses. We advertise our programmes widely in prominent local and national newspapers every year. Admission is based on the score in the entrance tests in the majority of the courses.
