Himachal Pradesh University started department of Music in 1971 immediately after its inception. MA classes, both in vocal and instrumental music were started. Department has done very well in bringing good name of the University. Its teachers have national standing and many of its students are professional musicians, composers, teachers, Radio and TV artist. If the department is given a bit of assistance, it can rise to great heights in the area of Music education in India.
