Welcome to the Department of Forensic Science at Himachal Pradesh University!

We are proud to introduce you to our department, which stands as one of the leading centers of forensic science education in India. The Department offers a two-year postgraduate program in M.Sc. Forensic Science, designed to provide students with the essential knowledge and skills to succeed in this dynamic and challenging field.

In addition to the M.Sc. program, the department also offers a Ph.D. in Forensic Science and various Certificate Courses in Forensic Science. These programs are designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of forensic science principles and practices. The curriculum spans a wide array of subjects, including crime scene investigation, genetics and DNA analysis, toxicology, firearms and toolmark examination, document examination, biology and serology, forensic odontology, cybercrime and security, and microbial and food forensics.

The Department is home to a team of highly experienced and qualified faculty members who bring a wealth of expertise from various national and international institutions. Our faculty members possess diverse specializations across multiple forensic domains and are dedicated to equipping students with the practical skills necessary for success in the field. In addition to their teaching roles, they are deeply engaged in research and innovation, frequently collaborating with government agencies, including the State Forensic Department, to advance forensic science practices.

To ensure a holistic learning experience, the department places a strong emphasis on hands-on demonstrations, practical training in crime scene management, and guest lectures delivered by experts from the state, national, and international levels. These experiential learning opportunities play a crucial role in bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world application.

Since its inception, the Department of Forensic Science has established itself as a leader in both academics and research. Our programs are continuously updated to reflect the latest developments and advancements in forensic science. Our graduates are highly sought after and have successfully pursued careers in reputed institutions, government agencies, and private sectors across the globe.

Each year, the Department admits 30 students to the M.Sc. Forensic Science program through a merit-based admission process. This includes 15 subsidized and 15 non-subsidized seats, along with 10 special seats as per university regulations. In the Certificate Course in Forensic Science, the department offers 25 subsidized seats and 5 special seats.

Beyond academics, we conduct various outreach programs to raise awareness about forensic science and its critical role in the criminal justice system. These initiatives aim to educate the community and inspire future professionals in the field.
