The Directorate of Physical Education & Youth Programme, Himachal Pradesh University come into existence in the year 1972 headed by a Director, Padamshri Charanjit Singh, former Captain of Indian Hockey (Men) team whose Captainship Indian Hockey Team won Gold Medal in Olympics. The Sports achievements of the University over the recent decades have been instrumental in enabling the Directorate to grow from strength to strength and to occupy a prominence in development road map of the University. The achievement of the University in Sports and Youth affairs over a decade is a continuous co-operation/ support of the Vice-Chancellor and University top administration. The aim of the Directorate is promoting Sports and Cultural activities among the students of the State and enabling them to face higher challenges in National/International level Competitions by providing them the best inputs in terms equipment, coaching, training and nutrition etc.

Ongoing activities of Directorate of Physical Education & Youth Programme

The Directorate is organizing Inter-College competitions in Sports & Youth Festivals (Men & Women sections). At present 150 Colleges of Himachal Pradesh are associated with this Directorate for sports and cultural activities.

This Directorate organized 21 Inter College and inter-university competitions in men section and 20 in women section in different games.

The Directorate organizes Coaching Camps for Sports Persons from time to time.

            Directorate also organizes Youth activities for students which are divided in to four Groups i.e.:-

2. Group-II     Music
3. Group-III    Dance
4. Group-IV    Theatre
