About NSS:                                               

            MOTO: Not Me but You. To accomplish the Moto of the National Service Scheme (NSS) is to encourage youth in welfare activities in the interest of the Society and the Nation. It provides opportunity to the student youth to take part in various Government led community service activities & programmes. The primary objective of developing the personality and character of the student youth through voluntary community service. ‘Education through Service’ is the purpose of the NSS.

About Us:

        The motive of H.P. University Shimla is to involve more and more Institutions affiliated with the University to encourage youth in the noble cause. At present the University has 185 NSS Units as sanctioned by the State NSS Office, Deptt. of YSS HP Secretariat Shimla. Every NSS Unit is of 100 Volunteers. These NSS Units are allotted to different Colleges/Institutes affiliated to/ maintained by the H.P. University. There is One NSS Programme Officer of Assistant Professor level and supporting staff assigned the additional work of NSS.  

Major Activities:

          Every year our NSS Volunteers take part in National Integration Camps (NIC), National Youth Parliament, Adventure Camps, Mega Camp, and Republic Day Parade Camp.

 

Other Annual Activities:

NSS Volunteers involve in regular activities and seven days Special Camps for philanthropic purpose as per the annual calendar of activities. H.P. University assists in the activities of NSS in the Colleges/Institutions having NSS. The details of Annual Regular Activities are as under:-

July:-        

             1. World Population Day                                              11th July

             2. Preparation of NSS volunteers for Independence Day Parade.

August:-

           1. Orientations of Volunteers as per guidelines of NSS Manual.

           2. Plantation of saplings in collaboration with local bodies & Forest Department.

           3. Blood donation Camps.

           4. Independence Day Celebration                           15th August.

           5. Campus beautification as per the guidelines of NSS manual.

           6. Sadhabhawan Pleadge                                      20th August.

           7. Sadhabhawana Pakhwada                                20th August to 5th September.

           8. To select and adopt village(s) to carry-out NSS activities.

           9. To promote the Road Safety Awareness amongst the students & public.

September:-       

           1. Teacher’s day                                                    5th September.

           2. International Literacy Day                                  8th September.

           3. International Peace Day                                    15th September.

           4. NSS Day celebration through   Social               24th September.

                 Welfare activities.

           5. Visit to adopted village(s) for social work i.e. to impart information/educate the villages on the issues relating to Environment, Land Reforms, Cleanliness, drugs abuse, organic farming, conservation of local culture & social harmony.

October:-

           1. National Blood Donation Day.                            1st October.

              2. Communal Harmony Day.                               2nd October.

           5. Traffic Week                                                      24th to 30th October.

           6. Lecture on AIDS, Drugs abuse etc.

                  Girl Child (Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao) Drug Abuse etc.

November:-

           1. National Mother Day                                        9th November

           2. World Human Rights Day                               10th December.

           3. Special Camps be organized during the vacations i.e. December & January. The camp will be organized in the adopted villages for 7 days and submission of statistical data to University immediately after completion of camp.

January:-

           1. Special Camps.(Seven Days)

           3. National Youth Week                                    12th January to 19th January

           4. Preparation for the Republic Day Parade.

           5. Celebration of Republic Day.                       26th January.

           1. Organizing some competitions among the students, College Teachers

& Inviting Resource Persons for Lectures.

           2. Visit to adopted village for building community & students’ relationship for Capacity building.

           2. Submission of Report of Special Camping & Regular Activities during the year.

April:-

           1. World Health Day                                  7th April.

             In addition to above NSS Volunteers will organize the activities as assigned by the Ministry of Sports & Youth Affairs Govt. of India, H.P.State Govt.

National Service Scheme Award:

The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India had instituted the National Service Scheme Awards to recognize the voluntary service rendered by NSS volunteers, Programme Officers, N.S.S. Units and the University.  These awards were instituted in the year 1993-1994. Since then, these awards are given away every year at various Levels.
