The Bioinformatics Centre at the Himachal Pradesh University was started under BTISnet (Biotechnology Information System Network) of Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India in the year 1999. The Centre is now housed in the Multi Faculty Building, Phase II (one staff room, 20 x12) and computer lab (20 x 20) of Himachal Pradesh University with the basic aim of providing updated information to students, researchers and the faculty members. The Centre has a Coordinator, Information Officer, Technical Assistant and Data entry Operator for its proper functioning. The Center is actively engaged in the development of tools and techniques for the search of novel sources of enzymes and their analysis on application of bioinformatics in biology and biotechnology. The Center has trained about three hundred fifty two participants through trainings and workshops. As many as forty one undergraduate/postgraduate/ Ph.D. students from neighboring universities/colleges/institutions have undergone summer and winter training projects at the Centre.
