The University Institute of Technology (UIT) is situated on the campus of Himachal Pradesh University in Summer Hill, Shimla. The institute commenced operations on September 11, 2000, following approval from the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and the directive of the Executive Council of Himachal Pradesh University. Initially, UIT was established with an intake of 60 students for the B.Tech. program in Information Technology. In 2013, the B.Tech. program in Computer Science and Engineering was introduced, also with an intake of 60 students.
Currently, UIT comprises five academic departments:
- Department of Computer Science and Engineering
- Department of Information Technology
- Department of Civil Engineering
- Department of Electrical Engineering
- Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering
Over the years, UIT has gained recognition as a distinguished institution, known both nationally and internationally for producing highly competent graduates.
