About Hostels

Himachal Pradesh University runs THIRTEEN Hostels - FOUR for boys and NINE for girls and provides accommodation to the boys and girls students. At present there are approx. 972 seats for girls and 567 for boys students are available in the Hostels. The students cannot claim admission to the hostels as a matter of right as admission to the hostel is restricted to intake capacity/vacancies available. However, all admissions in hostels are made in order of merit of the students prepared/forwarded by    the concerned department of various disciplines. Further, all Rights of Admission to the University Hostels are reserved with the Chief Warden.

The hostels administration are run by the Chief Warden, Additional Chief Warden and Warden(s).

The University provides the facilities of Mess, Internet connectivity through Wi-Fi and LAN, Common Room equipped with LED TV, current magazines, newspapers and Indoor games etc. to the resident boarders of all Hostels. A Dining Hall is maintained hygienically for boarders to enjoy their meals. Each hostel has a Warden and office staff who are responsible for its smooth functioning and to carry out routine activities. The Prefects are appointed by the Hostel Warden amongst the senior boarders to assist / smooth functioning of the administration of the Hostels. All the Warden alongwith different Committees maintain discipline, academic and peaceful atmosphere in the hostel.

All hostels are under CCTV surveillance 24x7. However, the security issues in all Hostels are the responsibility of Chief Security Officer. Inspite of this, the Hostel Maintenance is the responsibility of Executive Engineer (Const. and Maint.) of the University. 
The rules for resident students are available in Chapter XXVIII of the First Ordinances of the University.

3.Facilities being provided in all Hostels :

  1. Hostel MessThe facilities of Hostel Messes are being provided to all the boarders of University Hostels.

  1. Common RoomCommon Room cum T.V. Room is available for the resident boarders in all Boys and Girls Hostels for co-curricular activities. Moreover, the facilities of Internet Connectivity, Wi-Fi and recreation of indoor games like Tennis, badminton, and many these are also provided to the boarders.

  1. Guest Room: The facility of guest room are available in all girls hostels except two girls’ hostels i.e. (i) Saraswati and (ii) Vidyottama in which boarders and their guests can visit during the day time.

  1. Newspapers and Magazines: Facility of two newspapers, one employment news & two competitive magazines are also provided to the resident boarders of each hostel of the University under the charge of Common Room Secretary.

  1. M.I. Room, Sick Room and Reading Room: Medical Inspection Rooms/Sick Room facilities are available in all the University Hostels for the boarders. However, these are not functional due to the non-availability of the staff. Reading room is also functional in Saraswati Girls Hostel. In case of any emergency, the facility of Ambulance is also provided by the University.

  1. Auditorium: An auditorium is also functional in the Girls Hostel Complex for organizing some seminars, annual cultural functions, sports activities and other type of miscellaneous competitive activities.

  1. Disabled Room and ramp facility : Rooms for Disabled boarders are also available in Vidyottama Girls Hostel with the facility of ramp.

  1. Gymnasium: Gymnasium in boys hostels’ campus & girls hostels auditorium are available alongwith the necessary equipments and sports items for the use of boarders.

  1. Canteen: Canteen facilities are available in the premises of boys and girls hostels.

  1. Parking: Parking facilities are available in boys and girls hostel complexes.

  1. Security: 24X7 all Hostels (Boys & Girls) are under CCTV surveillance.

  1. Outdoor Games: Badminton Court facility is available in seven girls’ hostel complex.
