V.C.'s Message

Tourism is one of the largest and most vital industries for economies worldwide. It is one sector that has immense potential for utilization and growth. A country like India has vast tourism resources and assets consolidated over a span of more than 5000 years of rich history. The tourism product of this huge and diverse country encompasses a wide vista of attractions like, historical, cultural culinary delights, folklore, music, people and landforms. To harness this wealth of assets to attract tourists, the Tourism Education Sector has developed fast and is spreading all over the country. It is my pleasure to state that the Institute of Tourism, Institute of Vocational Studies, H.P. University, has been a pioneer body established way back in 1992, to impart tourism education and mould tourism professionals to serve the travel trade. For almost two decades now the Institute has been producing manpower to meet the need of various sectors of the industry like, accommodation, food and beverages, transport, travel agencies, facilitation centers, government bodies, travel consultancies and entrepreneurs, among others. Ever since its inception, the Institute has grown manifold and strengthened its identity in the University. Starting with only a Master Course in Tourism Management (MTTM), the Institute now even offers a Five Year Integrated (Master) Course in Tourism Management (FYICTTM) and short term courses for Tourist Police and Tourist Guide orientations. The Institute has launched Bachelor of Hotel Management (BHM) course in view of expansion. Its expansion. Besides it is also promoting academics through regularly organizing International Tourism Conferences, Workshops and Seminars and also has to its credit its own ‘Tourism Development Journal'. The MTTM alumni are well placed in the tourism industry all over the country and are even managing their independent travel businesses. In view of its continuous growth, I wish all success to the Institute in its endeavors of future expansion and strengthening of a rich academic environment that can help to further establish a rare and renowned identity for the Institute in Tourism Education in India and abroad.
